"Maggie helped me find my voice. It has made me feel more confident and grounded. I also suffer from breathing problems because of my asthma and after voice lessons, I've seen a noticeable difference. I would highly recommend Maggie to anyone. Her classes are a lot of fun." ~ E.B., Hamilton
"Working with Maggie was a pleasure. She offered great strategies for enhancing my belt voice and how to approach certain notes; as well as being extrememly encouraging in terms of risk taking and vocally stepping outside my comfort zone. Maggie's professional yet easy going nature also made for a wonderful working environment!" ~Alanna
"I had a great experience working with Maggie. The time flew by. She made me feel very at ease, which helped me to relax and let my voice come through, as this was my first time ever doing something like this. Thank you Maggie for helping me take my first step to making my dream of singing onstage come true." ~Kay
"My sister asked me, 'So do you think you won because of the session you had with the vocal instructor?' My answer was, 'Yes, I really think all of her suggestions made all the difference.' So Maggie, I just want to say again... Thank you." ~Ken, 1st Place - 24th Annual Northern Ontario Open Country Singing Contest
"Hi Maggie, just wanted to touch base to say thank you so much for being such an amazing vocal teacher and so much more! You have such an incredible personality and Abby Rose looks forward to seeing you every time she comes for her lesson. You spend such quality time with her, teaching her what she needs to know and work on to improve her vocal ability, which she has done. I have seen such an improvement in her voice and she is getting stronger vocally because of you. Thank you again so much." ~ Kelly
"FYI – She was approached by the choir teacher at school (who’s been approached by other teachers) to have Lauren sing in the choir. She has since joined, and will be doing a solo song for the school this Friday. You’ve done such a wonderful job of coaching Lauren – THANK YOU! She would have never accepted this opportunity prior to her singing lessons." ~Lisa
Who doesn't have a memory about going to a dance or swimming class as a kid and feeling uneasy about your perceived marginal abilities and your head voice that says "does not take instruction well."
Maggie Connelly is doing something about those who hang back in the corner, wishing they could disappear.
For the past four years, the actor has worked online to provide academic mentoring for at-risk kids in the rough neighbourhoods of Chicago. It made her aware of how children's self-esteem can soar with some positive feedback and encouragement.
She decided to put her professional acting experience and her master's degree in fine arts to work by developing acting classes for teens and adults. The goal is to teach students how to improve their confidence and discover their creativity through acting and improvisation techniques.
"I'm very interested in the concept of people challenging their creative instincts and branching out toward their dreams," she says.
Maggie's goal is to encourage actors and singers to hone their creative performances. Even if they never pursue a professional career, she wants to teach them techniques that will help them in all facets of life, from first dates to job interviews.
Maggie's first class, a group of eight-to-twelve year olds, is having a great time during the weekly two-hour classes in which she works on individual strength.
"I've see how they've grown in just three sessions. They were self-critical at the beginning, but improv helps them to get out of their head. When they become more spontaneous, it frees them up." And they're having fun.
